Lora Mays brings 30 years of uniquely diverse experience to FLI. She spent the first third of her career in private practice, the second third as in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 international oil & gas company and the most recent third serving as in-house counsel for a fast paced, privately held, international oil & gas exploration company. After leaving private practice (litigation and commercial transactions), Lora joined Anadarko Petroleum Corporation’s in-house team as a Contract Attorney. She then accepted a position in Denver as Chief Administration Officer and General Counsel for Aspect Holdings LLC.

Ms. Mays is a small business owner, an investor and serves as a Director in two Boards.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) delivered its judgement in “Schrems II” on July 16, 2020, invalidating one of the common methods for legally sharing personal data between entities in the EU / EEA and their affiliates or vendors in the US – the EU-US Privacy Shield program, in which more than 5300 US companies are enrolled -- and casting doubt on the future of the mechanism employed by most companies in the EEA to transfer data abroad, the EU-approved Standard Contract Clauses (“SCCs”).  Alternatives are available, but they are more limited and are also under pressure.
