FLI: Advancements In LegalTech 2020

July 14th, 2020

First International Law is widely recognised as a company continually pushing the boundaries of LegalTech. Described by company CEO, Orlando Casares, as “a pioneer since its inception”, FLI has frequently received accolades in the press from publications such as Financial Times, LegalWeek and The Lawyer for being an industry disruptor. 2019 saw the launch of the ground-breaking app ‘Assistant GC’, which allows FLI clients to submit engagements across 80 jurisdictions at any time, and during the 2020 Annual Spring Conference, they announced their next highly-anticipated technological innovation.

Chief Digital Officer and key speaker at the conference, Craig Holt, was proud to announce the new digital collaboration tool, FLI NET – a network designed to digitally facilitate group pitches and transactions while promoting compliance and due-diligence. When reviewing FLI’s previous practises, members had noted that there was somewhat of a ‘bottleneck’ effect in receiving referrals from HQ, inhibiting various member’s abilities to efficiently proceed with practice due to excessive centralisation.

The new network aims to unleash FLI members beyond waiting passively for referrals to be handed out by HQ. Instead FLI NET will empower members to be proactive, allowing them to pitch their work not just as an important local player but as part of a massive global legal organisation. HQ will instead take on a new dual focus: winning work and supporting members to win work.

FLI NET has been designed with optimised features to promote seamless collaboration between members, such as instant and safeguarded communication between members, as well as spending trackers for cases and floating notifications to provide users with continual updates on case progress. The network also has a built-in resource centre with easily customisable templates to quickly and efficiently design contracts. As a company pushing to be at the forefront of LegalTech, FLI NET is also being designed with VR advancements in mind, with the potential integration of the developing technology being factored in to the design.

Mr. Casares hopes that FLI NET will mean “the turning of a new leaf and the beginning of a new technology-savvy FLI, that I am hopeful will continue to make us a powerhouse and differentiate us from any other association.” Results of the new build, pilot and launch are expected to be available within the third quarter.
